Khopra Danda Trek in Annapurna region is new trekking but offers close up views of Annapurna and Dhaularigi range. While Annapurna Base Camp Trek is already famous, Khopra Danda Trek is less-frequented trail with more wider and challenging route.
If you are someone who wants week-long mountain adventure and less-trodden trail with incredible views, then this trek is great option. It is the perfect introduction to rural Nepal and its high Himalayan profile.
Khopra Danda Trek takes you through remote trail down into the valley north of Ghorepani and make a climb to anther scenic ridge – Khopra ridge. The trail on the way is taxing: steep sections come frequently and teahouses are very basic (but in-state of improvement). However, you will experience the rustic mountain life, intriguing hospitality and a true sense of adventure; which is hard to find elsewhere in Nepal.
Commencing from comfortable altitude 1,000m, we trek uphill to Ghandruk where the first night is spent. The next day, we continue towards Tadapani; from where the trial splits from the main stream route and continue towards Bayli Kharka. Now we will leave the crowds behind and trek through the dense forest and authentic villages to Dhan Kharka (Upper Chistibung).
A climbing experience to Khopra Danda (3,450m) is really fascinating as we have to scramble through narrow and steep mountain alley with splendid views. The next morning surprises us with magnificent sunrise scenery over gigantic Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. The viewpoint commands the panoramic views of more than 25 peaks – of which Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri range and Lamjung Range are major one. We spend one more night to explore the Khayer Lake and surrounding attractions.
The returning trip requires only 3 nights including a side trip to Poon Hill. Then a short trek leads us to Nayapul for the drive back to our hotel in Pokhara. The journey back to Kathmandu introduces you with scenic mid-hill farming and forestry lands in the southern reaches of Himalayan ranges.
